WAIPARA. j M : f 1 The Waioara County Council met a* ] Waikari on August 28; present--Messrs G. Rutherford (chairman), R. Evans, i A. Todd, W. F. Pannett and W. W.. j M'Rae. ' Mr G. G. Gardner applied tog have some formation and shingling don© | on the Riverslca Road, and also to hare | a drain cleared of weeds on the same i road. It was decided to reply that the jj formation and shingling would be kept in' view, but owing to the unsettledstate of affairs at present nothing could,:/ be done. The foreman would report on," the application for cleaning the drain.,, The Paparoa County Council wrote;: asking that two delegates should be* sent to attend a meeting on September • 30, at 2.30 p.m., to consider the ad-£ visability of forming a Canterbury, branch of the New Zealand Association. It was decided to accede j to the request,, and Messrs;Rutherford,', and Todd were appointed', delegate*.*' The Wanganui County Council wrot*] regarding the. Council devoting atweiH] tieth share of its revenue for the puivj chase of New Zealand food supplies to be shipped to and placed at the dis- v posal of the Home Government. It: was decided that the letter should lie on the table. The Public Works Engineer, Christchurch, wrote asking that, a map showing all existing public road*;, in the county should be prepared forthe Engineer-in-Chief of his Department. Ft was deoided to leave the matter to the clerk. | Mr G. D. Greenwood asked that :& : : bridge on the Reach Road should be! renewed, that some slips: on. the road/,hould be rembvedj and,-thata bridge iver Sheepwash Creek should be attend-; cd to. It was decided to make a road;' diversion at the Reach Road bridge, and that the new bridge ceeded with at once, and the slips clear-. od. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce forwarded an extract from the " New Zealand Gazette " of July 23, 1914, regarding the third schedule of the - Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, and its extension .to spiderwort. It was resolved to apply to the secretary for specimens of the weed. MALVERN. : i The Malvern County Council met oft Tuesday. Mr J. Jebson'B tender fbi metalling on the South Malvern Hills Road was accepted. It was decided to patch the Pigsaddle and Valley Roads next week. It was resolved to call tenders fpr about; thirty-eight miles of water-race cleaning in the county. . The work was ordered to be done rather earlier than usual in order to meet the present cry of unemployment said to oxist in Christchurch. The South Malvern Domain Board wrote with regard to obtaining control over thirty-three acres originally a por» tion of the Domain. The application was agreed to. The Paparua County Councu wrote regarding a combined counties meeting on September 30, and Councillors Knight and Deans were appointed delegates. The water-race reserve near the Waddington store came under consideration for tree planting, and instructions were given to put ii in order and commence the planting with ornamental shrubs. It was v agreed to inspect the chiel water-race intakes at a date to be fixed later on in the month, when the water was turned into the tunnel. It was decided to call a public meeting of residents at the Darfield sale on September 4, at noon, to consider what steps should be taken to relieve the distress both here and in Great Britain in consequence of the war; The balance for year ended March 31. 1914, was ,twed and was ordered to be published.
