SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
__— WHARENUI. i The Wharenui'School Committee met on Monday evening; present—Messrs F. G. Coombs (chairman),. Steere, Church, Staunton, Stokes, Milne and Palmer. A letter was received from the Board of Education, stating that the school would be inspected by Messrs Hardy and Maine and that the amount of £ : IQ 2s 6d had been placed to. the credit of the committee, including £7, being a special grant of Is per head for the half-year. In -reply to a letter from tho secretary of. the Open Air Home for Children Committee it was decided to 'open a fund in the school. The financial statement showed that No. 1 account had a credit of, £2B 3s 7d, and the No. 2 account £69 6s. The Ri'ccarton Borough Council wrote doi nating £lO towards the school .recreation ground. A hearty vote of thanks was pas ed to the Council for its liberality. Mr Steere was appointed to wait on the Board regarding the new infants' school and '. the headmaster's office. The headmaster reported that the number on the roll was'3ls and the average attendance 278. Messrs Steere and Milne were appointed a i visiting committee for the month. The ' ground committee reported that good progress had been made with the levelI ling of the new playground. Accounts J amounting to £32 were passed for payI ment. : t
LINWOOD
• The Linwood School Committee met on Wednesday evening; presentMessrs W. H." Denton (chairman). W. J. Jenkin, G. B. Gundry, R. Carter, G. Phillips,. R.. Ellis, H. F. Herbert and H. J. .Tamieson, honorary secretary. The headmaster reported that the attendance of scholars for the past month had been satisfactofv- considering the time of the year. The average attendance for the month was 508. the average.number on the roll being 548. The present roll number was. 552. Standard 11. was undergoing a medical inspection by Dr Baker, and medical cards had been filled in conveying her report to the parents. The scholars of the school had subscribed £5 0s 6d towards the Children's Own Air Home Fund and the amount had been handed over to the Linwocd branch comnr'ttee. The annual report of the inspectors, Messrs Brock and Mayne, as received and was considered _ very satisfactory. Notice was received . from the Education Board stating that the sum of £43 13? 9d had.been paid into the Bank of New Zealand to the credit of the committee.- Accounts to the amount of £ll 12s "•<-•■"' n*»«wl for nnyment.
