TOWN PLANNING.

LECTURES BY MESSRS DAVIDGE AND READE. In tho Canterbury College Hall on Monday, commencing at 8 p.m., a free illustrated • lecture ou ''Town Planning for New Zealand," will be given conjointly by Mr W. It. Davidge, an expert of honoured name in Britain, and Mr Charles C. Rcade, organiser of the Australasian town-planning tour. Mr Davidge has the distinction of being at the same time an architect, a chartered surveyor, and a qualified civil engineer. He holds all the diplomas in each profession that it> is possible to get; he. is a Fellow of tho Surveyors' Institute and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and of tho Institute of Civil Engineers. He has been known for 30 years as one of tho most influential men in the campaign for tho betterment of English towns. On Tuesday evening Air Davidge will give a technical lecture illustrated by lantern slides dealing with " Economic and _ Aesthetic Aspects of Town Planning." This lecture will be given at tho Canterbury College Hall, commencing at 8 p.m. Mv S. Hurst-Seagcr will preside. At the Canterbury College Hall on Wednesday evening, Mr C. 0. Reade, whoso industry and research have brought him among the leaders of town-planning, will discuss "Garden Cities v. New Zealand ( Slums.' " The lecturers have nearly a thousand lantern slides from which to select appropriate pictures. The illustrations range from early Egyptian times down to some of tho modern examples which England, Europe and America can show.
