S. Homers-Vine, first; R. L. H. M'Nish, second: A. J. Thorpe, third; J. S. Thomas, fourth; A. H. FarkeT, first engineer; A., Johnston, second; A. Barclay, third; L. O Brown, fourth; W. Company's liner Durham sailed from Brisbane for Timaru, in continuation of loading for West Coast of England poris. Subsequently sho will coe>« on to Lyttelton for final loading, being duo to sail for Avonmouth ahout Juno 13. Mr J. Cable has reioined the Arahuraas chief engineer, and Mr M'Conville, acting third engineer, has come ashore. Messrs J. Hooke and L, C. Fowke, wireless operators of the Maori and Maitai respectively, have exchanged positions. ~ <The Federal and Shire Company's liner Kent, which is due in New Zealand ehortly from Australia, to load for Boston and New York, will confine loading operations, to Auckland and Wellington. Tha .vessel is flue at the northern port ahout June 23, ind Wellington, for final loading, about July 7.

Early this morning l tho Commonwealth and Dominion liner Whakarua is- duo to 'leave "Wellington for' LytteHon, and should reach ■port to-ni«ht. T)io vessel is en route from New York, and has about 900 tons of cargo to land here. On account of the holiday, work on the waterfront to-day will I>e confined to t>e ferry steamer Maori and the HuddnrtPfrker Company's intercolonial liner Victoria. It is not expected that operations will be continued after midday. NGAHERE'S NARROW ESCAPE. In connection with, the Ngahere's de'ay at Gisborne recently, it appears that the vessel had a miraculous oecapo from disaster. At the time there was a high flood, and extra precautions were taken, to make the vessel lecure alongside the town wharf. Several heavy ropes were ran out from fore and aff »f the vessel, and springs to ea?o the strain on the stem ropes were mode fast. So severe was the fresh that with a rebounding crack the top of the pile to stern Babies, were attaohed suddenly carried away. The bow lines were unable to sustain the ■ndden strain, and almost immediately the ih'P was adrift in the swollen river. The oaotain and chief officer were left on the wharf, and it was considered that there was practically no hope for the vessel. Quickly ihe travelled with the current down stream, and just as the bend of the wharf was reached, with ' admirable prepenceof mind ane anchor was let go, and fd-tunately found good bottom. This caused the steamer to swing towards the wharf for a few moments, and the chief officeT managed to get on board. As the vessel swung out again a ieoond anchor was let go, and this caused fcer to veer across the channel until a triendlv eddy on the Kaiti Bide took a hand,

and, with the aid of the anchors, brought the helpless ship gently a.ongsido some lighters fortunately without any damage. No time was lost in getting tho cobles ashore and making all snug in the vessel's now. found berth, l-txt morning the vessel was found to be bogged, being emhedded in silt brought down by the fresh. Where there was originally 17ft of water, there was about 3ft after the flood. Before the < essel could bo moved about 3000 tons of mud hod to be cloarod away by dredges. It is fortunate that the Ngahero managed to bring up where sho did, for hod she gone a little further down tho river she would prooably have crashed against a dredge with serious results to both vessels. Thero was a possibility, too, that she would havo gone ashore on the rocks at tho entrance. ' TELEGRAPH NOTICE BOARD. AUCKLAND, June 2. Arrived,. 8.10 p.m., Navua, from South Sea Islands. • _ .
