DOMAINS BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Christchurch Domains Board met in the City Council Library yesterday; present—-Messrs H. J. Beswick (chairman), J. Jamieson, F. A. Anderson, C. D. Morris, W. H. Cooper, H. i Holland. G. Harper, J. M'Oullough, and H. G. El!, M.P., and Dr Lcvinge. The Christchurch Beautifying Association wrote disclaiming any intention or' planting shrubs in the Carlton Bridge reserve which might harbour undesirables. The idea was to plant native trees, such as ribbonwood, kowhai and cabbage trees. A committee, Consisting of the chairman, Mr Jumiescn and Dr Levinge, was set up to confer with the Beautifying Association and report. The Heathcoto County Council wrote nominating Mr F. A. Anderson as its representative on the Board. The chairman welcomed Mr Anderson as a member of the Board. Tho Lyttelton, Sumner and Woolston Borough Councils wrote, nominating Mr G. W. 0. Smithson as their representative on tho Board. The letters were- received. ( The Wainiairi County Council wrote entering an emphatic protest, against the method adopted by the Board in levying rates, on tho ground that tho Christchurch domains existed almost entirely for the benefit of Christchurch citizens. The county was [laying £222 per annum for its own public reserves, and objected to paying £.199 for the Christchurch Domain. Christchurch should pay three-quarters or seveneighths of. the amount required for rates- Tho letter was received. The Canterbury Football Association wrote asking whether the Board would offer it other grounds in case the drain-, ago scheme in South Park put it out of its present grounds. The chairman said that in the ordinary course he thought other grounds would be found for the Association jf possible. It was decided that a committee should .look into the matter of other grounds and report. Mr Jamieson suggested that the banks of the drain in tho south end of South Park should be gently graded and the soil used to fill up hollows. The matter was referred to a sports grounds committee, consisting of Messrs Jamieson, Anderson and 0. D. Morris, Dr Levinge and the chairman. The Ricearton Borough Council wrote stating that it desired to combine with the Spreydon Borough Council in nominating a representative on the Board, but the Spreydon Council had lodged an objection with the Minister to the Board's method of levying rates, and was not yet prepared to nominate. The letter was received. The Lyttelton Borough Council wrote asking if the Board would give any (spare bulbs or plants for the purposes of heautification in Lyttelton. It was decided to give the matter favourable consideration. It was resolved to set up a Finance Committee. The acting-curator reported on the work of the month, stating that tho repair of bridges had been completed, and a start would be made soon with potato digging. The tree-cutting had been completed, and most of the timber sold. The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £B2 19s lOd were passed for payment, and the ■ meeting terminated. j
