Drunkenness.— -‘A first offender for insobriety was fined os, ' in- default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, and another who did not appear was fined 10s, ‘in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.—John Finley was charged with being found drunk on the previous day. It was stated that • accused had been drinking methylated spirits and was in a low condition. He was remanded for a week for-medical treatment. ' t Remanded. Charles Nelson (Mr Donnelly) 'was charged with'the theft of two greyhounds, valued at £lO, the property of William Archer. Accused was remanded till Friday, and bail granted, himself in £so' und one eurety of £SO. 1 .- Civil Case's. Judgment _by default with costs was given in the following cases: —J. and A. SubInspector : M’lvinnon stated that between 10 and. 11 on Saturday night accnsed, accompanied by- two or three companions had. accosted Johnston in the street and. tried to pick a quarrel with him. Workman - said , that Johnston- was "one'of the Ma-ssey 'crowd; Johnston said “I don’t know you. Accused then struck Johnston and knocked him down. Johnston denied using insulting language to Workman. I’he Magistrate" said that these assaults in the street were becoming too common'. There was no need to come to-blows even if it was a political argument. He would' fine accnsed 60s ana costs.
