Mr W. M. Whitley arrived from Wellington on Saturday.

The Hon T. Fergus arrived from Wellington on Saturday.

Mr John Roberts arrived from Wellington yesterday.

The lady superintendent of the Christchurch Hospital, Miss Thurston, has now recovered from her recent illness and will resume work at the institution to-day.

Mr D. O. Bates, Government Meteorologist, left Wellington on Friday for Sydney. He will have a conference with the Commonwealth Meteorologist and wireless authorities regarding the establishment of a more complete system of weather reporting by wireless messages from and to snips.

Mr Charles C. Reade, organiser of the Australasian Town Planning tour under the auspices of the Garden Cities and Town Planning' Association, of Great Britain, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning to make preliminary arrangements for a lecture season in July. He will proceed to Dunedin on Wednesday morning.

Archdeacon York, of Greymouth, has been granted nine months' leave of absence to pay a visit to the Old Country. Archdeacon York, accompanied by Mrs York, will leave New Zealand about the middle of August, and in company with the Bishop of Nelson and Mrs Sadlier, will travel by tho Orient line to Italy, and thence overland to England.

Captain C. R. MacDonald, of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, at present en route to Now Zealand under engagement to the Defence Department, will succeed Lieutenant-Colonel Braithwaite, who has been appointed chief if the general staff as General Staff Officer for the Auckland district, states a Press Association telegram from Wellington.

It is stated that the position of officer commanding the Wellington military district, in succession of Colonel ™ W. C. Chaytor, who is taking up the office of Adjutant-General to the New Zealand forces, will ho offered to Major Johnston, an officer of the Imperial Army, who is at present on furlough from India. Major Johnston. states a Press Association telegram from Wellington, is a New Zealander, being the son of tho Hon C. J. Johnston, M.L.C., of Wellington. His acceptance remains subject to the approval of the War Office.
