GIRL ATTACKED.

AN AUCKLAND OUTRAGE. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND. May 29. A girl named Gwendoline Leather, whilst returning home about six o'clock last night, was assaulted by a man who hit her on the head with an iron spanner. She fell, and her assailant grasped her throat. She managed to scream, and the man snatched her handbag and bolted. The girl has two scalp wounds, requiring twelve stitches. She also bears marks on her neck. The spanner is in tho possession of tho police, but there is, so far, no further clue.
