The annual meeting of the Geraidine Racing Club was held at Geraidine on Wednesday night. Mr O'Malley, the president, was in the chair, and there was a largo attendance. In its report the committee offered congratulations on the extremoly gratifying result of the season's operations and tne enviable position in which the club now stood. The credit balance was £122 12s lid. The revenuo from all sources had amounted to £2442, being £641 in excess of last year, duo mainly to totalisator receipts, which had increased by £386, and to gate receipts, which hnd increased by £l4O. The expenditure was £2282, or £270 in excess of last year, and of thi3 £IOO represented increase in stakes and £135 increased totalisator tax. A Bum of £790 was spent in improvements and a further £6O would complete all authorised works. The last race meeting had passed off most successfully. There was a, very largo attendance on both days, and tho special train from Christchurch hod been well patronised. The record sum of £15,147 10s was passed through the totalisator, as compared with £10,016 10s tho previous year. For tho first time a stipendiary steward had attended the meeting, and his duties had proved very light. Ono extremely pleasing feature was the increase of members, the list now totalling 105, a fact that showed that the committee's efforts mot with the approval of tho local sporting public. There had been a certain amount of comment on the paucity of the stakes offered by the club, but it had to be remembered that a great amount of provision had to bo made for tho comfort of patrons and the capable handling of tho meetings. As the appointments were now well up to date more money would be available for stakes in the future. With a view to fostering racing amongst local sportsmen the committee had made a donation of £lO to tho Geraidine Hunt Club. During tho year Mr A. H. Wilson replaced Mr T. Cotton, jun., as caretaker of tie course. Mir Wilson had given every satisfaction, and was deserving of every support for the manner in which ho managed his business. The thanks of the club were due to the various officials for the "excellent manner in which they had carried oiit their duties, and to ths 'horse 'owners and public generally for their loyal support. The balance-sheet showed that ££oo was paid in stakes. Mr O'Mallev, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said that £I6OO had been spent in improvements in two years, and £3323 since 1896. Under the rules tho least sum they could give in stakes was £946.

Mr Kennedy seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Tire- following officers were elected:—Patron. Mr W. Noswortby, MIP.; president, Mr E. O'Malley (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs J. Kennedy and A. G. Macdonald; committee, Messrs A. Bates, W. Quirk, I>. Macdonald, B. Lewis, A. Brown, R. Kennington, J. W. Macdonald, W. T. Turner, J. Smith and W. Connolly. A discussion took place as to the amount of stakes to bo offered at the next meeting', and it was resolved that it should bo a recommendation to the committee to Taiso the stakes to £IBOO.

Excellent acceptances were received last night for the first day of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's meeting, and big fields will bo the order of the day. The club has decided to start the first race at 11.45 a.m. on each day. At an adjourned meeting of the stewards of the Forbury Park Trotting Club held on Thursday night, a complaint lodged by R. Logan against T. E. Wilkins, that the latter had given falso evidence in connection with the inquiry in regard to the running of the Beach Handicap at the last race meeting, was fully considered. After the matter had been gone into thoroughly it was unanimously resolved that there was no evidence to support the charge, which was dismissed. The evidence showed that Wilkins had bumped Logan during the race, and the stewards decided to fine him £lO. The pacer Ivy Dillon, who was in W. L. Price's stable, has been returned to her owner, it having been decided to give the mare a spell. George Price intends making a holiday trip to Australia, and on his return will advise "Mr Highden" as to the advisability or otherwise of taking Pariform over to contest the A.J.C. Derby. On present appearances it does not look as if tho field in the Sydney classical event would be as strong as usual. A Wanganui correspondent states that Jackman, winner of the Wanganui Steeplechase, will probably be raced at Trentham and will certainly be seen out at Riccarton. Jackman is trained by his owners. Messrs Burrell and Taylor. Prior to the Wanganui meeting Jackman had been schooled over tho big jumps at his owners property at Feiiding, and apparently his work there impressed his joint owners, and as a consequence Jackman was well supported in the big cross-country event. The first appearance of Peary over the Ellerslio country was awaited with interest savs an Auckland correspondent, and there can be no question that the initial display of the son of BirkonheaJ was entirely satisfactory. Peary gave a fine disp ay of fencng, an! the climbing or descending the hill diS not appear to give him trouble, ihe Hon J- D. Ormond's candidate is now lavourito for the big cross-country race.
