GERMAN SHIPPING.

THE LINE TO NEW ZEALAND,

DISCUSSED IN LONDON

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. '? . -

LONDON, May 21. Interviewed respecting the London cable that the Norddeutscher Lloyd Company proposed to extend operations to New Zealand, shipping men expressed doubt, pointing to the fact that since the company had only been able, with a subsidy of £250,000, to run a monthly service between Australia and Europe at a loss, it seemed obvious that extension of the service to New Zealand, already served by steamers via the Cape, was not a commercial proposition.

They suggested, however, that the movement may be part of tho German public policy in the development of the deep sea carrying trade.
