A FARMER'S SUICIDE. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 13. Francois Joseph Benoit, an elderly man, a settler at Papakura, shot himself fatally while in a fit of depression. At the inquest a verdict of suicide was returned. .
A SETTLER MISSING. [Per Prem Amooutkw.] GIBBORNE, May 18. R. S: Whitehead, an old settler of the Morere district, is missing. He arrived at Morere from Wairoa by coach on Monday afternoon, and set out to walk home by a short cut, a distance of six or seven miles, including three miles of bush, but did not reach home. A large party is now searching the bush for the missing man. It is said that he had been unwell lately.
A SUDDEN DEATH. [Per Press Association.] INVEROARGILL, May 13. At the inquest regarding the death of John Kelly, aged eighty-one, who died suddenly at Underwood, the verdict was that death was due to cardiac failure following on hemorrhage of-the stomach.
INCfUEST AT KATKOURA. [From Our Correspondent.! KAIKOURA, May 13. An inquest touching the death of the old man Peter M'Farlane, who was found dead in bed) on Tuesday, was held this morning. A verdict was returned in accordance with medical testimony that death resulted from heart failure.
