THE HAWKE CUP. POVERTY BAY v. WANGANUI. [Per Press Association.] ' WANGANUI, April 4. The Hawke Cup challenge match, Poverty Bay, challengers, v. Wanganui, holders commenced at Cook’s Gardens today. The local team batted first, \ scoring 185 (Holland 56, Orton 28). M’Mahon took eight wickets for 79 runs. When stumps' were drawn Poverty Bay had scored 108 for five wickets "(Moore not out 31, M’Mahon 81). Bernan took three wickets for 28 runs. Tho match will be resumed 1C Monday morning.
WELLINGTON COMPETITION CLOSED. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 5. The Senior cricket championship competition closed on Saturday, with the '-result that North, by securing a twofioint win over Petone, ties, with the atter club for the premiership with 19 points each.
