C.E.M.S.

ANNUAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. :

The annual meeting of the Christ*: church Federation Council of the' Church of England Men’s Society was held on Thursday evening, in the rooms of the Y.M.C.A., when there was a good attendance of members. The report showed increased activity on the part of the majority of the branches. Reference was made to the open-air services held every Saturday evening in Cathedral Square, and while it was acknowledged that earnest work was being done, a hope was expressed that more members would make a jpoint of attending. A more frequent interchange of visits among the various' branches was advocated, so that the strong might help the weak. During the discussion that followed it wa a~ pointed out that at seven different military camps during the past year., the Society had been able to establish • “Regimental Institutes,” where the! men in camp were able to read, write/ and join in the various amusements: provided, and were able when so in-; dined to join in the short devotional j service that was held every evening. ' The report was adopted. ; A discussion took place on the pro-; posal to extend the Church of Eng-j land Bible Claes Union, all agreeing i that there was much scope for the l C.E.M.S. to actively take up'this work? among lads, thus helping to stop the leakage that took place after the ( period of ordinary Sunday school life; was passed. It was determined to. earnestly recommend all branches to", undertake this work. '

Reference was made also to the cent unanimous vote of the City Coun- j cil with regard to the due observance j of Good Friday, and it was decided to j place on record the appreciation by the Society of the Council’s decision thatj no picture shows should be held or con-j cerS given on that day. - j An address was given bv the Revj P. B. Ilaggitt on the standard of life! for the C.E.M.S. as set forth by Jesww Christ and His Apostles. ’
