CHARGES AGAINST INDENT AGENT.
♦ [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 3. At the Police Court this morning, Frederick Schlaich (forty-two), an indent agent, was charged before Mr Frazer, S.M., that about December 19 he committed theft by receiving £6lO 4s Id on terms requiring him to pay or account for it to Hughes and Cossar, and that he fraudulently omitted to pay or account for the same. Accused, it was stated, managed Hughes and Cossar’s Wellington branch, and then came to work for the firm iu Auckland, where contracts for supplying Government Departments with goods were made out m his name, because he was known to the Government officials concerned. In this case it was alleged that the accused made a contract to supply goods to the value of £6lO. Delivery was made by the firm on December 10. The accused left the employ of the firm on December 22, and, as the Government cheques were sent to him, he was asked in February if he had received the and he said he had not. Subsequent investigation showed that the accused received the cheque on December 19. Accused pleaded not guilty, and reserved his defence, and was committed for trial.
