RECORD EXTRAORDINARY. PICTON TO DUNEDIN. The Greatest Performance ever put up by a Car in NevP Zealand has just been mad# by a HUPMOBILE CAR and a Great Record has been established. The Model H Hupmobile (32 h.p.) Car left Picton on MONDAY AFTERNOON at 1 p.m., and ran right through tc DUNEDIN, a total of ' 496 Miles a in the record time of 17 hrs. 25 mins. Records were put up as follows : . Picton to Christchurch: 250 Miles In 3 hours 45 mins. Christchurch to Timaru: In 3 hours 15 mins. Christchurch to Dunedin : 246 Miles (in 4arkness) In 8 hours 40 mins. TOTALS s Picton to Dunedin: 496 Miles In 17 hours 25 mins* The average speed, including crossing of rivers, and also including 9 hours driving in the dark, works out at ov6r 28 MILES PER HOUR which* is a phenomenal performance.
