THE BOWSKILL ARREST.

MISSIONARY SOCIETY RECEIVES INFORMATION. PORTUGUESE DEALINGS WITH NATIVES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright(Received March 6, 11 p.m-) LONDON, March 5, The Baptist Missionary Society has received advice from Matadi, dated in the middle of February, showing that after peace had been declared, following the Rev J. Bowskill’s efforts at mediation, the Portuguese officials arrested a number of native Christians. The effect was electrical. The war was renewed. San Salvador was burnt and the Portuguese were driven within a fortress. They are short of water, and the insurrectionists shoot everyone trying to reach water. The whole country is excited. Mr Bowskill told Paulo, the Portuguese official in charge of the fortress, that his action had influenced the country. Paulo detained Mr Bowskill.
