All applications for the New Zealand war medal will close at, tho Headquarters, New Zealand Military Forces, Wellington, on iVlareli 31, 1914. Tho Koman Catiiokc schools will hold their annual picnic at the Riccarton Racecourse on Boxing Day. • Special trams will leave Oatnodrai Square at 9.3 a.m., and will return at 5.12 p.m. and 7.12 p.m. The ferry steamer Wahine will make an excursion to Akaroa on New Year's Day. Excursion tickets on tho railways will not bo issued for, nor available by, tho 8 a.m. express on Friday for stations up to Timaru inclusive. Passengers for stations up to Timaru must travel by tho extra express, which leaves at 9.10 a.m.

A domain fete and novelty sports programme will take placo in the Glentunnel Domain on Boxing Day. An excellent programme has been arranged and amusements are provided for young and old. Tho evening train will leave Whitocliffs at 5.55 o'clock. On Christmas Eve tho Friday night timetables will be run on all tramway lines. On Papanui lino the twelve minutes service will bo continued after 9.19 p.m. till 11.10 p.m. from Christcburcn railway station. On Christmas Dav Sunday timetables will be run on all'lines, and extra trips will be provided at night after the finish of tho ordinary Sunday cervices. Particulars of extra trips are exhibited at tbe tramway shelter in the notice-box under the clock. The members of the Lyttelton Methodist Church will hold their picnic on Boxing Day at Diamond Harbour, and not at Port Levy. The steamer will leave the jetty at 9.15 a.m. Tho Halswell Sports Club meeting will be held at Halswell on Boxing Day. Divine servico will be conducted at the Durham Street Methodist Church to-morrow, at 11 a.m., by the Rev C. H. Laws. ' ' ■ During tho New Year holidays, the Railway Department will run excursion trains to Little River, to the sports meetings at Timaru, Rangiora and Dun3andel, and to tho races at Methven. Extra express trains will leave for Timaru on December 30, at 9.10 and 12.10 p.m. On New Year's Eve, a night train will leavo Christchurch for Dunedin at 10.35 p.m., aud on New Year's Day special trains will bo run to Rangiora, Timaru, Springfield, Little River and Ashburton. A late train will leavo for Tenroleton at 11 p.m. On January 2, a special train taking passengers for Oamaru will leavo Christchurch at 7 a.m. On January 3 a night train for .Dunedin will leave Christchurch at 9.20 p.m.
