BELOW STANDARD.
PROTECTING THE CITY'S MILK SUPPLY. , PURVEYORS BEFORE THE COURT. At tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., Alfred Aymes fMr Rowe)-pleaded not guilty to a charge that he had sold milk under the standard. Mark Kershaw gave evidence as to the analysis of the milk, which showed that it was below the standard, but Mr Rowe set up the defence that the milk had;not beeu sold for human consumption, but for analysis only: The defendant supplied milk to the Christchurch Dairy Company only, and it was all separated. Tho charge was dismissed. John E. Ferguson (Mr Johnston) pleaded not guilty to four charges of a similar nature. Ho was fined 40s on each information. James Griffith (Mr Leathern) pleaded guilty to a similar charge,. and was fined 40s and costs. Thomas Wilson :pleaded not guilty, and called'evidence 'to show that tho sample, taken con-* sisted of milk from his own farmland from his neighbour. The neighbour's milk had been taken to oblige him. The Magistrate: That docs not relieve you of the liability. Some unfortunate consumer got the benefit of the 15 per cent it was below the standard. It's no answer to the charge. Fined 40s and costs.
