SWIMMING.

WALTHAM CLUB.

Tho annual meeting of the Walfc'nam Amateur Swimming Club was held last night in the Waltham School, when the patron, Dr C. J. Russell, presided over a good attendance. The annual report stated that the club membership totalled seventy-five. The financial position, of the club was sound, tho receipts being £64 15s 5d and the expenditure £53 (3s Bd, leaving a credit; balance of £ll 8s 9d. The usual number of club races had been held during; tho year, the finishes in most of the races being close and reflecting credit upon the handicapper, Mr C. Kent. Mr R. Evans had won the Waltham Oup for the first time. The annual carnival had proved a success both to the swimmers and the public. Thekbthanks of the club were due to the following gentlemen for donations to the club's funds:—Dr C. J. Russell, Messrs A. Anderson, W. H. Coombes, 0. Y. Harvey, G. Goodwin, J. J. Adams, G. W. Parsons, F. Wilding, T. H. Mortlock, J. Spense, T. O. Hill, H. Donnelly, C. Ferrier and J. J. Allingham, and to the members of the Waltham School Committee for their attention, to the improvements of the bath. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Patron, Dr O. J. Russell; president, Mr J. J. Adams; vice-presidents, Messrs T. H. Davey, M.P., H. G. Ell, M.P., F. C. Mortlock, F. "Wilding, T. C. Hill, J. J. Ailingham. A. Anderson, H. Donnelly, W. H. Coombes, J. Spense and C. Ferrier; club captain, Mr D. Allingham; vicecaptain, Mr N. Tregear; handicapper, Mr C. Kent; delegates to the Canterbury Swimming Centre, Messrs A. Johnson and A. 0. Davey; delegates to tho 'Sports Protection Association, Mr J. Clemens; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Clemens; management committee, Messrs J. Ellwood, P. Jones, "VV. Cox, R. Evans, W. Hall, H. Cox and W. Gregory; auditor, Mr J. J. Adams. KAIAPOI CLUB. There was a largo attendance of m.embers at the fifth annual meeting of the Kaiapoi Amateur Swimming Club on Friday, the president, Mr R. Wylie, Mayor of Kaiapoi, being in the chair.

The report stated that, the past season was the best in the history of the club. The membership had increased largely and great interest had been evinced in the club races. The membership was as follows: —Senior 84, junior 11, ladies 2, school children 53. The annual carnival was very successful, there being large, entries and a good attendance, and a profit was 6hown for the first time. The balancesheet showed a credit of £2 2s 7d. The report and balance-sheet were adoptedThe following officers were elected : Patron, the Hon D. Buddo; president, Mr R Wylie; vice-presidents, Messrs J. H Blackwell, R. Moore, H. A. Cooper, C. H. Wright, W. E. Bate and T. Douds; club captain. Mr T. Hoskin; vice-captain, Mr \V. Stark; club race judges, Messrs J. "Wylie, H. A. Cooper, E. Capstick, J. Bryden, F. Chamberlain; committee, Messrs C Mallasch, W. Higgins, J. Bryden, J. Purdie, H. Fisher, E. Capstick and J. Wylie; ladies' committee, Mrs Chamberlain, Misses K. Wells, R. Forrest, M. and P. Poarce; delegates to Swimming Association, Messrs T. West and R. Wylie, jun.; club starter, Mr J. Bryden ; check starter, Mr J. Wylie. Mr A. C. M'Phorson, one of the founders 6? the club, and who was captain last year, had since removed to the North Island, and ho was elected a life member. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, Octobor 18. Votes of thanks were passed to tho retiring officers, donors of prizes and the ladies.
