The Katoa will aail for Westport on .Wednesday. Owing to her overhaul being '.ncompleted the Mararoa will not return to Lyttelton until Friday. After having been laid up for about two months the Kaiapoi Shipping Company's steamer "Wootton a-gain resumed running yesterday. She has been fitted with anew boiler by Messrs Anderson, Limited. During the time the boiler was under construction tho opportunity was taken to give the engines a thorough overhaul and also make very extensive alterations amidships. The whole of JJlie ironwork in connection with tho alterations was carried out by Messrs D. and S. Sinclair. Tho shipwright contract was carried out by Mr J. Miller. After adjusting per compasses the "Wootton loft fcr Motueke, Jn charge of Captain Larsen, with Mr T. Lyons as mate. . Mr Arnold, late of the Kairaki, joined tho vessel as chief engineer. On Saturday afternoon the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Kuapehu loft Lyttelton for Bluff, where «ho arrived yesterday. During her stay here the vessel distharged a largo quantity of London cargo and also loaded the following lines:—so9 bales wool, 190 casks pelts, 105 casks tallow, 117 crates hares, 217 sacks peas. 88 boles leather, 191 sacks grass seed, 7C65 carcases frozen meat, 159 bales tow, 525 oases runners, 12 casks casings and 182 packages sundries. The Star of Ireland is duo to leave New York to-day for Auckland, Napier, "Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin and iNelson, Mr F. Lange, late of tho Kittawa, has .joined the Kamo as third officer, vice Mr v. Hay, who has come ashore for orders. '" Yesterday afternoon tho Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's "liner Athenio arrived at Wellington from London, via Cape Town and Hobart. Her southern passengers and mails •re due here this morning by the "Wahino. The Athenio is due in Lyttelton on October $, and after landing 1200 tons of oargo she will sail on October 15 for Port Chalmers. On Friday afternoon the Shaw, Savill and Albion Oompnay's Kumara sailed from Monte Video for London, where ehe is due an October 19. The Kumara will sail from Canada on Decem- ' b»r 16, being due at Auckland about FebruYesterday afternoon the Kaiapoi Shipping Company's Kairaki left Lyttelton for Kaiapoi to complete discharge of her cargo ot timber. It is abous nine months since a vessel entered Kaiapoi owing to tho bad ttate of the "Waimakariri bar. Tho New. Zealand Shipping Company s liner Opawa, now at Dunedin, is to loave the southern port on Thursday for Lyttelton. The vessel has 800 tons of cargo to land hero, and will Bail on Saturday for Bluff. Subsequently the Opawa will proceed to Suva k> complete discharge.
