CHARGE OF CONTEMPT.

NEWSPAPER PROPRIETOR SERVED WITH WRIT. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 29. William Blomfield, part proprietor of tho " Observer," has been served -with a writ to appear at the Supreme Court, Wellington, to show cause why he should not be committed for contempt; of Court with respect to cartoons published in the " Observer," and reflecting upon Mr Justice Edwards and the administration of justice at the Supreme Court, Auckland. The writ served on Blomfield was issued hy the Attorney-General, and sets out that he did publish certain scandalous, insulting and offensive pictures or cartoons entitled respectively, "Experience" and "Justice is not Blind," and referring to Mr Justice Edwards as a Judge of the Court, and imputing to him partiality, bias, injustice, corruption and impropriety in the conduct of his judicial office, calculated to obstruct and interfere with the due administration of justice; or in the alternative the Attorney-General may be at liberty to issue a writ of attachment against tho 6aid William Blomfield, and Blomfield may be ordered to pay costs of this application ; or that further other orders may be made as circumstances of the case may require. Blomfield will leave for Wellington by the train to-night.
