HOSPITAL BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING

The North Canterbury Hospital Board met yesterday; present—Mr F. Horrell (chairman), Mesdames Christie and Wilson, Dr Fenwick and Messrs J. H. Davison, A. H. Turnbull, W. P. Spencer, R. Moore, W. M'Millan, W. W, Tanner, W. H. Cooper, G. Scott, H. B. Sorensen, T. D. Boag, H. J. Otley, D. M'Millan, J. D. Hall and T. Harrison.

Mrs Fell, of the Nelson Hospital Board, and Miss Richmond, of the Wellington Hospital Board, were present by courtesy, and were welcomed by the Board. The Hospital Committee leported that the patients' fees for four weeks to September 11 had been £398 as against £349 in the previous year. Messrs F. Burgoyne and T. Sewell had been appointed painter and electrician respectively. The question of admitting maternity cases to Kaikoura Hospital was under consideration. At present the committee was awaiting particulars concerning a maternity hospital recently established in another district. A letter had been received from the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board asking whether the North Canterbury Board was favourable'to the establishment of a uniform scale of holidays for hospital employees throughout the dominion. The committee had replied, that the Board would welcomo uniformity and had forwarded the Board's scale of holidays.

The report was adopted, and. the Hospital Committee was requested to report at the next' meeting on.' the Kaikoura matter.

On the motion of Mrs Wilson, in the abseuco of Mr J. D. Hall, it was resolved to communicate with the Australasian branch of the British Medical Association, suggesting that a paper should be read at the conference in Auckland in January on the methods adopted in other countries in maintaining the health of the public. A letter was read from the City Council stating that it had in the matter of a pure milk supply, and had a Bill before Parliament that would give it ample powers. The Institutions Committee reported that it would report as early as possible on the prospects of providing more accommodation for children. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee reported a credit balance of £12,786 15s sd. The foundations of the administrative block were being laid. The report was adopted.
