NORTH OTAGO. [From Our CoHKEsroNBEXT.] OAMARU, September 20. There is a fair inquiry tor wheat but comparatively little is offering, fanners who hold being either not disposed to accept current rates or too busy with the finishing of sowing to make delivery or grain. Transactions have consequently been few. The principal 6ales reported during the week are 500 sacks of redchaff at 3s 9d and 500 sacks of Tuscan at 3s 6d, both net at country stations. For a lino of nearly 300 sacks of Velvet 4s Id net was given at a country station and, another line of '250 saclcs of the same variety was socured at a halfpenny less money. Other sales of wheat include redchaff at % 3s lOd net ex store and 3s 9d net at country stations, Tuscan at from 3s 6d to 3s 7d net at country stations according to railage distance and quality, and Marshall's white at 3s 6d net at country stations. Business in oate has been confined to a few lines of from 100 to 250 sacks and the net prioes paid at country stations have been 2s Id for A grade Gartens and 2s for B grade. Gartons. There is a little more inquiry but stocks in growers' hands and, indeed, in thoso of' merchants also are comparatively light. '■'",,.'. Oatsheaf chaff has been dealt in on a small scale at £3 10s net. on trucks. Potatoes continue to move off very slowly. Notwithstanding the advanced period of the season growere show no disposition to rush the market and inorder to fill orders merchants have been compelled to pay £2 and'in one case £2 2s 6d net on trucks for, prime, freshly-picked tubers. Other sales at country stations have, however, been made at 32s 6d and 35s net, while 37a 6d net secured one lot delivered in Oamaru. There is a little more outside inquiry and present prices are likely to be maintained unless growers attempt to force sales.
