NEW BRIGHTON SURE CLUB.
A meeting of the committee of the New Brighton Surf Club was held on Saturday evening, Mr V. J. Drake in the chair. After consideration of the conditions imposed by the Royal Life-Saving Society regarding the money allocated to the New Brighton Club from the street collection taken up some months ago the following resolution was carried unanimously:—" That this committee regrets it cannot see its way to sign the conditions set .out by the Royal Life-Saving Society regarding. New Brighton's portion of the funds from the street collection. With the erection of the pavilion it was the earnest intention of the club to further lifesaving work in accordance with the purpose for which the money was subscribed and it justly requested early payment of Same.'' The secretary was instructed to forward a copy of the resolution to the Society at the earliest date. It was decided to accept the tender of Mr Bull for the extra work entailed' in building ' the reel-house. The total cost would then be £3ll. It was also decided that October 2? (Labour Day) would be a suitable day for tho opening of the new pavilion by a smoke concert in the evening. Mr Bryant stated that the badges ordered should arrive in September. Accounts were passed for payment amdunting to £1 19s, 6d. It was resolved that the secretary should write to Captain A. W. Owles, thanking him,' for his keen interest in surf bathing and congratulating him on his proposed safe bathing area on tho beach.
