CLIFFORD'S STUDIO. I ♦ ' Recognised throughout the dominion I ns the Standard Studio for Characteristic Portraiture. Address—ls2 Castnl Street Telephone-1096. 108?

A most unnatural place for birds to make their nests is between the rails of a railway. This, however, is the ease in Blair Atholl,.not far from the Scottish Horse-camping ground, where threo oyster-catchers nests and eggs can he seou. It is noticed that when a train approaches the birds make a small circular flight, and in a few seconds are a<*ain sitting on their nests. The nests are on the upline, and it is a curious fact that the birds never move for downcoming trains. This is the third or fourth spring that these birds' have ' nested on the line.
