CYCLE TRAFFIC IN BEALEY AVENUE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It will be very interesting to know who is responsible for the stupid piece of vandalism now going on in this avenue For some days past tho Council's men have been busy cutting up the grass borders beneath the trees and throwing a lot of tho old green sward into tho roadway. Upon making inquiries of the men I learnt that this sward was to be robbed and taken away " to provide a cycle track inside tho tram poles." Imagine anything more senseless and stupid than this! This avcuuo is already intersected in about thirty places by cycle tracks cut across it beneath the trees; so much so that it is positively dangerous for children or elderly people to 6troll there. I believe these avenues were created as resting places and beauty spots for people to use and enjoy. Now they are veritable " death traps. Ino scorching cyclist has made tracks across them and it is positively unsafo for children and their guardians to walk upon them. —I am. etc, *E. TOWNBEND.
