—*. —. [PkR PRERP AsSOCIAIION.] HASTINGS, August 25; • The inquiry into the lire which destroyed a four-roomed cottage m Treacle Lane, Hastings, on August 11, was concluded to-day. Mr S. E. M'Carthv, Coroner, found that the furniture and effects in the house belonged mostly to Patrick M'Namara, who had insured them in his own name for a sum much bevond their value, and that Mrs Wells, a sub-lessee of tho premises, had, at, tho request of M'Namara, insured the same furniture and effects in her own name for £3O. The Coroner recommended that tho actions of M'Namara with referenco to tho dwelling and contents should be further inquired into. DUNEDIN, August 25. A fire broke out in the premises of 11. Isaacs and Co., manufacturers' agents, this evening, and the stock, comprising principally boots, curtains and household furnishings, was damaged to tho extent of about £3OO or £4CO. The stock is believed to be insured for about £3OOO, mostly in the Atlas Office, with a small portion in Lloyd's. INVERCARGILL, August 25. Mr J. Baker's store at Apariira, with the post and telephone office, was destroyed by fire on Sunday. Tho inmates narrowly escaped. The stock i 3 a total loss. .
