i 6EVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT.
The seven-a-side tournament organ- • 'seel by the Senior football clubs of vhristcliurch will be held at Lancaster Park to-day. The entries comprno fifty teams from various parts, includ' ing'two from Wellington, and the times of starting the different grades will bo a 3 follow:—10.30 a.m.. Third Grade; 11 a.m.; Fourth Grade; 11.30 a.m., Fifth Grade; 12.30 p.m., Second . Grade; 2.30 p.m., Seniors. Play will proceed continuously on all threo grounds from 10.30 a.m. Luncheon and afternoon tea will bo available at the Park. REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Executive of the Canterbury Referees' Association was held last evening, Mr H. E. Hiddloitone presiding. Two new members were nominated For election, and ono resignation was received. On behalf of the Rugby Union the chairman requested members to start an active crusado against continual talking by players, and also against the use of bad language. It was agreed I that in the future referees will take a arm stand in the matter. It was decided that all referees should meet in the Press box at Lancaster Park to-day, shortly before half-past ten. Referees will be provided with lunch and afternoon tea. It was resolved to make an endeavour to give all members a turn on the Oval. On the motion of Mr J. F. Peako, seconded by Mr W. Harman, it was decided that in future all referees shall signal to, the defending side at all plare-kicks at goal, when the ball is on the ground. SYDENHAM CLUB. On Friday evening the Sydenham Football Club held a social evening in .tho clubrooms, Mr W. M. Allardyce, president, of the club, presiding over an attendance of about sixty. During i the evening presentations were made to two members, Messrs W. Graham and . W. Guy, on the occasion of their marriages. On behalf of the members the president presented Mr Graham with a silver-mounted flower stand, and Mr Guy with a dinner cruet. In making ' tho presentations the chairman spoke highly of the assistance Mr Graham has rendered to the club, both as a, player and an official, and in referring to Mr Giiy complimented him on his football qualities. Both recipients suitably responded. During the evening Mr G. Good, vice-president of the club, promised prizes for a billiard tqurfiament, to be arranged by the / committee. Musical items were given by Messrs A. Horniblow, Hooper, R. Campbell, R. Cummins, L. Cummins, W. Norton and H. Le Corato. Mr A, , Horniblow was accompanist: The competitions in connection with the Ashburton County Rugby Union are now assured. The Senior competition promises to bo interesting, teams having entered from the Rakaia, Methven, Springburn and Old Boys' Clubs.
