MARKET REPORTS.

ADDINGTON. At tho Addington Yards yesterday there very largo attendance of tho public, aud during the greater, part of tho day interest was chiefly centred in the fat sheep sale, the entries in this section being exceptionally large. The entries of fat sheep and lambs were unexpectedly small, tho sale of the latter being completed at an unusually early hour. Fat Cattle. — Tho yarding of fat cattle aggregated 276 head, against 252 the previous week and 194 on March 5. The quality, was about on a par with tho customary standard, and included a number of animals of a very useful type. From the outset until the close of +he sale the market was

irregular, fluctuating* considerably at different parts, but on the whole prices were rather firmer than at the sale held a week earlier, tlio current price of beef being 22s 6d to 30s per llKJlb. according to quality. Steers realised £5 10s to £9 10s, extra to £l4 os, heifers £5 17s 6d to £lO 2s 6d, and cows £5 5s to £lO 7s 6d. The following were amongst the principal sales: — For A. J. Veai.eks.— About the usual number of veal calves were penned, all qualities being represented. The demand was about on a par with that of the previous week, prices ranging from 8s to £3. 2s Od, according to size and quality. Store Cattle.— There was a fair entry of store cattle, including some useful sorts, particularly of fifteen to eighteen months’ animals and tlireeyeay steers. The market for all descriptions was easier, and in consequence a number of lines failed to reach owners’ reserves. Yearlings made £1 12s Od, fifteen to eighteenmonth sorts £3 to £4, two-year heifers £4 ss, three-year steers £0 5s to £0 8s (passed), three-year heifers £0 Is, fiveyear steers £9 5s (passed) and cows £1 10s to £0 6s. about twenty cows realised £4 17s 6d per head.

Dairy Cows.— Dairy cows were represented by an average entry, including a number of a useful sort, and there was a brisk sale throughout, prices ranging from £4 10s to £lO for average sorts and to £ll 5s for extra good sorts-

Fat Sheep. — There was an entry of about.4ooo fat sheep, the bulk of them being ewes. Tho market opened firmer, tho butchers operating freely, as they had got so few lambs. Wethers showed an advance of Is per head at the opening and maintained their values, several lines being taken for export. Ewes opened firmly, but towards tho close of the sale they eased off in price. The range of prices was: —Prime wethers 19s to 21s 9d, lighter 16s 6d to 18s.Gd, prime ewes 16s to 20s 9d, medium 13s 6d to 15s 6d, aged and light 9s 4d to 13s, merino ewes 8s 6d. Pigs. —There was a fair entry of. fat pigs, and the demand showed little variation from tho previous week. Choppers realised £3 10s to £5 7s 6d, heavy baconers 65s to 725, and lighter sorts 55s to 645, equal to 5d to 5Jd per lb. The best porkers made 42s 6d to 48s, and lighter sorts 35s to 40s, equivalent to 5Jd to 6d per lb. There was a fair yarding of stores, although below the average of recent sales. Largo sorts sold freely, but tho demand for smaller sorts . was weaker. Large stores realised 38s to 44s 6d, medium 28s to 375, and small sorts 22s to 275. Small weaners were not in keen roouest, realising from 12s upwards, whilst largo sorts made to 17s. Sows in pig made to £4 10s. BURNSIDE. • [Per Press Association'.] DUNEDIN, March 19. Fat Cattle.—-177 wero yarded, the greater number of which consisted of medium quality steers. Tlio entry was not up to tho average as regards quality, which, on the whole, was very indifferent. Tlio demand was somewhat dull, and prices were fri>u 5s to 10s per head lower than last week’s rates. The slackness in the demand for both cattle and sheep was in some measure due to the fact that butchers’ shops will be closed from Thursday till Tuesday. Prime bullocks £l2 to £l3 7s 6d, medium to good £lO 10s to £ll 10s, light £8 to £9 10s, best cows and heifers £8 10s to £lO 10s, medium £7 to £B, light and unfinished £5 to £6. , Fat Sheep.—The yarding comprised 2511, the greater number of which were’ ewes. Prime heavy-weight wethers wore in rather short supply, and tho demand for them was good at prices quite equal to. lato rates. Medium class wethers and ewes did not command much attention, and to clear pens reduced prices had to be accepted especially in the case of ewes, which were Is Gd to 2s below last week’s rates. Prime wethers 23s to 25s Gd, ! good 19s to 21s Gd, medium 17s to 18s, lio-ht 15s to 16s 6d, extra heavy ewes 20s to 245, heavy 17s to 19s, medium 14s to 15s Gd, light 10s to 12s. Fat Lambs.— Tho yarding was smaller than usual, only 1389 being penned. Grazing buyers took the hulk of tho entry at prices slightly easier than those ruling for the past two or

three weeks. Lambs as a whole wc of very indifferent quality, there bcin only a few pens of really prime in tl whole entry. Best 17s to 18s 9i' medium 15s to 16s, light 12s Gd to 14: Pigs.—47 wero penned, and they me with a brisk sale at an advance of 5 per head on last week’s prices. SKTN~SALE. At the Canterbury By-product Com pany’s weekly sale of sheepskins tlier-wa-s a good demand, and prices wer firm. Pelts made 3s 6d to 5s 6d, lain! skins 3s lOd to 4s 2d and woolled half bred skins 8s 6d to 8s 9d.
