B-obert R-cay, well known as a trainer and rider of trotting horses, was severely injured through a horse falling with him yesterday morning. Reay was working Red Ribbon on the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s track at Addington. and 1 the horse fell with him.just in front of tho stewards’ stand. Reay came down on his head and shoulder, and it was apparent nt once that 110 was seriously hurt. Ho was taken promptly to the Hospital. It was ascertained that 110 had suffered concussion of the brain, and thero was reason to believe that no had been injured internally. His collar-bone was found to be brokenA serious shooting accident happened at Kaikoura oh Saturday, when Mr James Boyd, a well-known farmer sustained dangerous injuries. It appears that Mr Boyd was trying a. Winchester rifle preparatory to going on a pigshooting expedition. He fired ono shot, hut tho seoond hung fire, and Mr Boyd was in the act -of examining tho rifle when tho weapon went off, the bullet striking him on tho face, ploughing through the cheek and breaking the olieek bone, ultimately coming out beside tho ear, making a ghastly wound, and resulting in the Joss of a lot of blood. Tho unfortunate man was attended by Dr Slater, and afterwards removed to tho Kaikoura Hospital. In view of. tho seriousness of the injuries additional medical assistance was obtained from Christchurch.
