Mr Lewis Y. Harcourt,-Colonial Secretary, in reply to a question, said he was communicating with the Governor of Fiji regarding the frequency . of murders among Indians duo to marital jealousy arising out of the inadequate number of women under indentured immigration. The Governor 6aid thoro were no grounds for commuting the four recent sentences, and Mr Harcourt did not think a special inquiry necessary. UNIONIST DIVISIONS. LONDON, March 19. Mr Bonar Law addressed 4000 Unionist workers at Manchester. He said that tho Kendal by-election was a difficult matter. Thoy could not fight one policy in ono part of tho country and another policy in another part. Unless local associations were careful to select candidates supporting the official policy tho position would be impossible. Unionists’ duty was not to magnify differences. Ho denied that compromise implied sacrifice of principle to expediency.
