CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, March 19. (Before Mr W. J. Neate, J.P., and Mr J. Jameson, J.P.) By-law Cases. —Reginald Meyers was fined 7s and costs for cycling on a footpath.—For a like offence James Ayers was fined 7s and costs. —Thomas Fancy and William Henry Palmer were similarly dealt with, and on a further charge of selling a newspaper on a Sunday Palmer was fined ss. Albert Edward Armstrong (Mr A. T. Donnelly) pleaded guilty to a charge of having left a motor-car unattended for a considerable time in Colombo Street, and was fined ss.—On a similar charge Ethel Davis (Mr Taylor) pleaded guilty, and was fined ss.—Dr Thomas Harrison, who did not appear, on a charge of having driven a motor-car over a street crossing at an excessive speed, was fined 5s and costs. —For having driven a motor-car over a street crossing at other than a walking pace John Joseph Blease was fined ss.—Thomas Hanunon pleaded guilty to a charge of having ridden a motor-cycle over a street crossing at an excessive speed, and a penalty of 5s was imposed.— Cyril Moffatt was fined 5s for having ridden a motor-cycle at an excessive speed.—On a charge of having left a vehicle with a horse attached unattended William Cox was fined ss.—Henry Clark, on a similar charge, was fined ss.—Harold Burleigh, for riding , a cycle at night without a light, was fined 10s.—Charles Smith, on a similar charge, was fined 10s.—Frank Watson, a hawker, pleaded not guilty _ to a charge of having remained stationary in a street, contrary to the by-laws. After considerable evidence had been taken the case was dismissed.—Frederick Ernest' Woodham pleaded not guilty to a charge of negligent driving, and pleaded guilty to a further charge of having plied for hire with an unlicensed vehicle. On the first charge defendant was fined ss, and on the second was convicted and discharged.— George Gordon was charged with having allowed horses to wander, and was fined os.—On a similar charge Arnold Cook was also fined ss. Drunkenness. —A first offender. was convicted and discharged.—Wiliam James Green was fined 5s for drunkenness, and a remand was granted on the application of the chief detective on a further charge of failing to comply with a maintenance order.—George Hunter pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness, refusal to quit licensed premises when legally requested to do so, and with damaging two bottles of gin valued at 10s. On the first charge"’Hunter was convicted and discharged, on the second ho was fined 20s, and ori the third he was convicted and ordered to pay for the damage done, ; n default seven days’ imprisonment. ,

Adjourned.— The cases of Brown v. •Calvert and polico v. Alfred Godfrey were adjourned till March 26, and the case of Tozer v.‘ Gibson till April 2. Affiliation.— Robert Williams (Mr Cassidy) was charged with being the father of an unborn illegitimate child. He pleaded not guilty, and the case wajs adjourned until April 1, bail being allowed in £IOO.

Sureties . of the Peace.— Martba Kiharca (Mr Bishop) applied for sureties of the peace against Letitia M’Taggart (Mr A. T. Donnelly), but the case was dismissed.
