OBITUARY.

MR JOHN ELLWOOD. The death is announced of Mr John Ellwood, a widely-known and esteemed resident of the Ashley district for over fifty years. Mr Ellwood came to New Zealand in tho year 1860, making passago in the ill-fated ship Matoka, and after being for a short time at Cust entered into farming pursuits at Ashley, which he continued until about nine years ago, and then retired. He was for many years chairman of the local school committee, and ho also took a keen interest in the Good Templar Society, in which he held every office, including those connected with, tho Grand Lodge. He leaves a widow and a family of ten.
