AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

Tho committee > of the Canterbury Automobile Association met last nieht; present: Dr Louisson (president), Messrs F. W. Johnston, W. Mills, A. S. Clarkson, D. Crozier.and Dr Simpson. The following new members were elected: Messrs H. Beadel, J. Johns, G. E. D. Scale, W. S. Smily, C. J. Jones, A. D. Boag, D. A. Baxter and R. Barnctt. Tho Dunlop Rubber Company forwarded a cheque of ten guineas towards the fund for carrying on the competitions in connection with the Association. : Tho town clerk wrote, stating that, once the certificates were issued, the Council's export would not find himself at the end of his duties in connection with .privately owned cars, since during the six months ended November 30, 1912, 485 cars and motor-cycles wer< registered, exclusive of re-registration, and a large proportion of.these drivorc would require certificates, so that ther» was every prospect of plenty of work for the inspector. The Hawke's Bay Association wrote, expressing appreciation of the success of the Canterbury Association in getting a reduction on the freightage of cars between Wellington and Lyttelton, and stating that in all probability a reduction in wharfage rates at Napier would be aimed at if they compared unfavourably with those charged at Lyttelton.

It was decided to place a further £3OO of the Association's funds on mortgage at the usual rates.! Accounts amounting to £l4 2s were passed for payment. It was decided to cancel the b©aeb races to have been held on Februarj 15, and to hold the hill-climbing contests on that date. The president and Messrs Cronier and Johnston were appointed a sub-committee .to arrange details. ' „', !-j The secretary stated that February 8 was the day on which /the Association was due to take the orphans for an outing. Dr W. H. Simpson reported that in company with Captain M'Lean he had travelled over the proposed trial route to Kaikoura and found it in overv way satisfactory. The report adopted, and it was decided to nold'the trial oyer the course suggested on March 7 and 8. A vote of thanks waß passed to Cap-, tain M'Lean for kindly placing his automobile at the disposal of the committee.
