An Algiers message says that a river in flood swept away a mail coach, and eight out of twelve of tho occupants were drowned. JAPANESE SAILORS DROWNED. SYDNEY, October 15. Eastern news states that two cutters of Japanese warships collided at Yokohuka, and twenty-soven bluejackets were drowned. [Per I'hess Association.] WAIHI, October 15. At the inquest on Richard Benjamin Harris, found burnt to death after a fire in' a shanty at Waitoto on Sunday, the Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death. MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENTS IN THE CITY. LADIES INJURED. An accident occurred on .the New Brighton tram-line, at tho corner of Cashel Street and Madras Street, at 5.17 p.m. yesterday. The car was goino- to New Brighton with two trailers and a -heavy load of passengers and the motor-car was running south along Madras Street, at, apparently., a moderate speed. At the intersection of the streets, the motor-car ran in front of the tram-car. Tho driver of the motor-car, R- A'. Johnston, was seen to try to steer his vehicle in front of the tram-car, but failed to got over in time, and tho motor-car was struck in the 'middle of the body. It contained two passengers—Mr Mason, who it is believed, lives at Riccarton, and a | ac ly besides the driver, who is a professional, and plies for hire. All,were thrown out, and the lady was pinned under the left side of the car until she was reka r cd. She was then placed in another ear and taken away. Noinformation could be obtained last uMit in repard to the extent of her injuries; but it was reported that thoy 'were not of a very serious character. Mr Mason and the driver were unml'ured.
