CHRISTCHTJEOH. , Tuesday, October. 15. (Before Mr H. \V. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Three first offenders for drunkenness, tvro men and one woman, were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Adulterated Milk.—George Thompson was charged with having sold milk that was not up to standard. The Inspector, in his report, stated that the sample he had analysed showed a deficiency of 23 per cent of cream, and also the addition of 5.5 per cent of water. It was tho worst milk he had come, across in ten years. Defendant pleaded that the sample was supplied to the Inspector by an inexperienced girl, and was not a fair test, she not having stirred the milk first. The Magistrate, after commenting very strongly on tho case, fined defendant £5 and costs. Allkgkd Theft.—Joseph Quinn (Mr M. Donnelly) was charged with having 6tolen, at Addington, on August 17, a coat, a pair of gloves and a mufflor, oi a total value of £3 Is. Tho accused wavS remanded till the following day, bail being allowed in accused's own recognisance of £25 and one surety of £25. Prohibited.—Mary Donovan, a prohibited person, was charged with having been on licensed promises, and with having procured liquor. Defendant, who did not appear, was fined 20s on each charge, in default one month's imprisonment. Vagrancy.—Julia Crowley, an old offender, who appeared on remand to answer a charge of vagrancy, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard lalxnir. Maintenance.-—-Nellie Daries was ordered to pay 2s 6d per week towards tho support of an industrial school inmate.—Elizabeth Annie Taylor was granted a separation order from her husband, John Samuel Taylor. Defendant did not appear, and ho was ordered to contribute 15s per week towards the support of his two children. Tho complainant, who said sho could support herself, was granted the custody of the children.—Herbert Theakstbn Mellish was ordered to pay 12s per week towards the support of his wife. No order was made as t-o the custody of tho child. Mr Leathern appeared for tho complainant and Mr Donnelly for the defendant.—Charles Hawes (Mr Donnelly) was ordered to pay the Christchurch Hospital £33 12s and the Fema.le Refuge £5, at the rate of 15s per week, as well as costs, expenses incurred with a still-born illegitimate child. Mr Dougall appeared for the complainant.—Louisa Bohan was ordered to pay 5s per week towards the support of her child—William "Wilson Taylor was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for disobeying a maintenance order for the support of his wife. —Owen David William Patten, on a similar charge, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.—Carl Gloisten (Mr W E-. D. Bishop) applied for a rehearing of Iris cse with Ruth Gloisten as respondent. The application was refused. Mr M. Donnelly appeared for tho respondent. ;
