METHODIST LOCAL PREACHERS ASSOCIATION.

At tlio last annual Council of the Methodist Local Preachers' Association it was decided to offer £lO for the best written: sermons by Methodist local preachers. The writers were divided into two classes, and a prize of £5 worth of books was offered in each class. A good number entered from various parts of tho dominion and the prize in the junior section was awarded to Mr E. Sage, of Ashburton, and in the senior section to Mr C. W. Barrell, of Christchurch. It was also decided to award a special prize of 21s to Mr Hambly, of Wanganui. Tho examiner was the Rev W. J. Williams, of Oamaru, who gave an interesting report and made several laudatory remarks as to the quality of the work done.

At a meeting of the committee of the Association, held last evening at Durham Street Church, the report was received, and it was decided to present tho prizes publicly at an early date.

Correspondence classes for local preachers have been -established under the tutorship of tho Rev C. H. Laws, and aro well supported in both islands. The tuor reported that good sound work is being done by the students.
