SOME CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT.
TO THE EDITOR. ’ Sir, —A letter appeared, in your paper to-day under the above heading. -A few more causes may be 'added,' bub I will oidv give on©, which, in my opinion, is the chief of all. In my search for work 1 last week visited the import sheds at the railway station, and if only half of what I saw there wa? manufactured locally’, as it, can be, thero would bo constant work for hundreds of men in Christchurch alone, and if aa much is imported into other porta as there is into Christchurch there would be work for thousands. J. trust our local M.P.’s, the Trades Hall Committee and every member of their Unions will pay a visit to these sheds next time a couple of oversea steamers are discharging and see for themselves why men are unemployed locally and the cheap sweated products of other countries arc coming in. Then perhaps the long-promised revision of tlio tariff will he no longer delayed while men and their families starve-—I am, etc., WORKER.
