A man searching with a Jighi for a gas leakage in a shop at Tamwortli caused an explosion. The building was completely tVrccked. Several persons were ‘seriously injured. A woman w&a blown across the street.

On April 22 the auxiliary fishing boat Lottie left Omaha for Wbangaruiu with three Maoris, Tenatalii Brown,- l’.is wile, and a girl, Lydia Ngcre, and a European named E. G. Phillips aboai'd. On Sunday last pieces of wreckage found in the vicinity of Whangaruru created suspicion of a disaster. Yesterday the boat, a total wreck, and the bodies of Phillips and Ngcrc were found on the beach at Mill Point at the entrance to Whangaruru. The fato.of the other two occupants has not been ascertained, but there is every possibility that both- have been drowned.
TWO WORKMEN FALL FROM BUILDINGS.
Two men fell from buildings in course of construction in the city yesterday afternoon, and one man is known to have been seriously injured. Early in the afternoon J. Geo, foreman of works on the new Government buildings being erected in Cathedral Square, fell from a height of twentyfive feet, landing on a brap of bricks. Ho was unconscious when some fellowworkmen reached his side, and the ambulance was called at once. He was at once conveyed to tho. hospital, where it was discovered that he had sustained very serious injuries. One of his firms, one of his legs and several ribs were broken, while a small bone in one of his feet was fractured. In addition he sustained heavy bruises. Last night when inquiries were made at the hospital it was stated that the. man’s condition was serious. Gee is a middleaged man. At about the same hour James Waddell. a young man employed as a plumber by Messrs Scott andßon. contractors .for the Dearoncsscs%lo'mc in Barbados? Street, fell from-.the roof of the new building, a distance of abcut thirty feet.- He was picked up at once and conveyed into the Home, where ho was -able to sit up and take a cup of tea. A tnxi-cab was sent for and tho young man was taken to his home. It is feared that his back [s hurt.
A boy named J. A. Tnit had his arm broken at Ashburton on Tuesday wliilo endeavouring to start a motor-car.
