The Nunia has arrived at Halifax with seventeen bodies recovered from the Titanic wreck. Sixteen of the number had died from exposure four or five hours after, ithe sinking of the ship. The bodies were found miles apart. The Canadian Government has sent a steamer to search for bodies believed to have drifted from*tlie edge of the Gulf Stream into cold water.
THE BRITISH INQUIRY. LONDON, May 7.
At the Titanic inquiry, Beecham, a fireman, stated that when the ship struck an order was given to stop the engines and to stand by the watertightdoors, which were closed within five minutqs. The fires were drawn. His boat contained no compass, lamp, water or provisions.'
At the Titanic inquiry, Hitchens said that up to the moment the vessel struck the speed was forty-five knots for every two hours..
AN ICEBERG
LONDON, May 7,
A New York message says that the steamer Climo reports sighting a broken iceberg 130. feet high, carrying saloon fittings, handbags, chairs, cushions and wreckage.
COLONEL ASTOR’S WILL
NEW YORK, April 8.
Colonel Astnr’s wife was left a million conditionally on remaining single. Colonel Astor left his son fourteen millions.
