CHATHAM ISLANDS NEWS.
[FnOJI OtTK COKRESI'ONDENT.] May 2
\ The weather.for the past two weeks has been very boisterous, strong gales with heavy rain prevailing. On April, 20 the s.s. Nora Niven arrived at Ivaingaroa from Wellington. She sailed on April 22 with a full cargo of fish. On April 2G the much-looked-for Himitangi arrived from Wellington with stores.
The islanders aro very dissatisfied with the Himitangi’s coming from Wellington instead of Lyttelton, as there is a quantity of cargo, lying at Lyttelton for the islands which is very much needed.
A meeting was held on May. 2 at Waitangi of all those interested in the trade of the island to discuss the Himitangi charter, the feeling being that the agreement was not being observed. Tt was reported that the owners -of the Himitangi were raising the freights on goods and stock. It was decided to communicate with an agent in Christchurch with a view to having matters put on a better basis. It was stated that over 100 head of cattle and some thousand sheep were ready to be shipped. but that they would ho held pending an adjustment.
