The Massachusetts Republicans selected Mr Tart "on the State'preferential ballot, but at the same time selected an entire State " delegation at large," favouring Mr Roosevelt. Tile situation is unparalleled in the history of the United States. Mr Roosevelt, when asked for an opinion, favoured the delegation voting for Mr Taft as an equitable solution of the difficulty.
