STEAMER BEACHED. United Press Association—By Eleetrio Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, May 2. When the 6teamer Peregrine, with over 100 passengers and a largo general cargo, was leaving the River Plate, the cover of an old porthole became displaced and the water gamed rapidly. The captain beached the vessel at the entrance to the bay to prevent her sinking, and the passengers were landed. The damage to the cargo cannot be ascertained until the steamer has been temporarily repaired and reberthed.
