A New York message says that the town of Jsmay, lowa, is taking steps to alter its name in consequence of the criticisms addressed to the head of tho White Star Line in connection with the Titanic inquiry. Tho rnhabitants are contemplating renaming the town Butt, Aster or Strauss.

(Received May 3, 12.50 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 2. Senator Works, a Californian member, protested in tho Senate against Senator Smith's methods of investigation. He said that the Titanic was manned by British subjects, who were answerablo to British law. The Government had gone to unwarrantable lengths. What the Senate ought to know could be ascertained in a few hours.
