Vessels arriving at Mobile frorr Panama report that there has been s violent eruption of Chiriqui Peak, near Becas del Toro. Hundreds of Indians perished, and a whole village was wipcc out. The volcano was never before known to be active. Clouds of dust were wafted out to sea, and rocks wen thrown a hundred feet up in the air.
