BOARD OF GOVERNORS
A meeting of-the‘Board of Governors of the Technical College was held last night; present—Messrs G. Scott (in the chair). \V. 11. Cooper, A. D. Hart. VV.' R. Smith, H. B. Sorensen, A. Williams. T. S. Foster, H. Langford. M. Murphy, S. C. Bingham, W. F. Cooper, H. R. Rush ridge, AJ. 8011, B. S. Smith, J. Down, R. C. Bishop, TV. W. Charters. V’- Hayward and G. E. Goodwin. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
Mr George Scott was unanimously, elected chairman for the year. In acknowledging the action of the Board, Mr Scott said that he felt somewhat diffident in taking the chair which had been occupied so ably by Mr Charlfes Allison and Dr Hight-. He would do his best to render liiuiself worthy of tile confidence expressed by the Board. Mr H. R. Rush ridge was elected vice-chairman, and the standing committees were appointed..

The report of the Appointments Committee stated that the resignation of Mr A. C. Maxwell as instructor in English and practical mathematics had been accepted, and: Mr Most-, headmaster oi Fendalton School, had been appointed in his stead. The resignation oi Mr Moore, instructor in building construction. had also been accepted, and Mr Bowron bad been appointed to the position. Tlio report recommended that Miss Gilmour be appointed assistant to Miss Clarke in tlio evening French classes, and that 1 payments should be authorised for the provision of physical training of the girl students in the.day school. The classes at Richmond School had been discontinued, owing to lack oi' adequate support. The report of the Buildings Commit-, tee, recommending certaiu improvements and repairs at the College, was adopted. The financial statement. showed receipts amounting to £‘l42/ 4s Hid, and expenditure £925 Is sd, leaving a credit balance of £502 ,3s sd. Accounts amounting to £605 19s 2d wore passed for payment. DIRECTOR'S REPORT.
Tlio directors’ report, which was adopted, stated that Miss Boys-Smitli, professor of homo science and domestic aits at the Otago University, had visited the college, and had addressed a. meeting of the ladies who had interested themselves in raising funds for tlio training hostel. She had given an outline of the courses for training in domestic science provided at Otago University. PHYSICAL TRAT XINO.
Tlio directors’ report, brought under tlio notice of the Board a circular recently issued by the English Board of Education on the matter of physical training. This circular emphasised the necessity for strict attention to physical training during adolescence, and recommended that in all cases a^ skilled, teacher should be engaged. ihe director endorsed this recommendation, stating that he considered it desirable that a skilled instructor should be obtained for the college. The matter was referred to the Appointments Committee. MISCELLANEOUS. -* Mr C. H. A. T. Opic was granted six months’ leave of absence. The Printers’ Machinists’-and Bookbinders’ Union donated £1 Is towards a scholarship for the hook-binding class, and Air G. H. Richardson forwarded £1 Is towards providing a prize for competition among pupils in woolclassing. *
