PERSONAL.

Tho Hon G. Laurenson, Minister of Labour, will be in Christchurch, on Saturday morning. Mr G. W. Forbes. M.P., arrived m Christchurch from Timaru by the first express vesterday, and left in the evening: for Cheviot. Among the passengers by the ferry steamer for Wellington last evening were Professor La by. Father Burke and Messrs H. D. Bell and A. Kayo. Mr and Mrs W. B. Williams. Mr and Mrs Geoffrey Nye and Mr and Mrs T. Lnrcombe left for Wellington by the Mnraroa last evening. Captain D. Watson., secretary of the Merchants’ Service Guild, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning and left later for Dunedin. Sir Robert and Lady Anderson, of Belfast. Ireland, arrived, in Christchurch from the south yesterday, and went on to Wellington last evening. Sir Robert is a loading Belfast merchant, and was for some time LordMayor. He was knighted at the time of the Coronation. The Rev and Mrs N. Turner were entertained at a farewell social in the Methodist Mission Hall, ' Durham Street, on Monday evening. Mr J. T. Robson occupied the chair. Speeches were made by Messrs Stephen. Hitchens. Hyde. Kent Johnston, R. 11. Turner and H. Holland. Musical items were given by Miss Archibold, Messrs H. Robson and F. Turner. Mr Tumor was the recipient of a very handsome and valuable present of books, and Mrs Turner was presented with a handsome handbag. Presentations were also made to other members of the family. Mr and Mrs Turner suitably replied. Refreshments wore provided by the ladies of the church.

A complimentary social was tendered to Mrs Mills and Misses S. and G. Mills and Mr J. Bean, on March 29, in the Breed field School, on tho occasion of their leaving the district. Mr A. Dennison presided over a large gathering. During the evening Mr J. T. Moore presented Mr Bean with a silver-mounted dressing-case, as a token of esteem from his many friends, and in doing so said they all regretted liis leaving the district. Mr W. Early presented Mrs Mills with a silver teaset, and Mr P. Ryan presented Misses S. and G. Mills with a gold brooch each as a token of the respect in which they are held. Mr Bean suitably thanked those present for the gifts to himself, his mother and sisters. During the evening songs and recitations wero given, and refreshments wero handed round.
