PROGRESS OF CANTERBURY.

TO TIIE EDITOR. Sir, —There is ono item, that seems to havo been overlooked by tlio advocates of tlio canal. That is th<* value of the land to be reclaimed from Monck’s Bay to Heathcote bridge, whioh would almost pay the cost of Air Joshua Little’s smaller canal scheme. Tho idea put forward hv the Commissioners that this canal would bo of no great -value is absurd. Land in the vicinity is selling at about £IOOO per aero without tho canal. If tho new dredge were sent round to tho estuary it would earn a thousand pounds a week. There is a largo area that requires only a few feet of spoil to reclaim it.—l am, etc.,. OBSERVER.
