BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SUMNER. A meeting of the Sumner Borough Council was held last evening; .present —The Mayor (Mr H. J. Marrinor) and Councillors T. B. Boulton, G. IV. Smithson, E. G Wood. J. D. Lawrence, J. W. Lill and G. Brewer. The Works Committee’s report, which was adopted, recommended that a concrete culvert should be put across Colenso Street; that various specified improvements to the bath-house should be carried out; that tho repairing of the Clifton reservoir should bo put in hand as soon as possible; that the Council should take no steps in the matter of covering in the creek through the Rock Villa property : that Messrs Mason, Struthers and Co. should be informed that the pipes and fittings lying at the Cutting would not be accepted until the terms of tho specifications were complied with, nnd that the work of erecting a firobcll at Redcliffs should be proceeded with. A letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs, stating that a voucher for the sum of £250, Coronation subsidy, had been passed for payment. The financial statement showed I receipts £375 0s lOd, and expenditure i £604. Accounts amounting to £337 7s 5d | were passed for payment. A letter was | received from a resident of the borough drawing the attention of the Council to the proposal of the Tramway Board to raise the fares to Sumner in order to make up for losses on other lines. It ! was decided that no opinion could be expressed by the Council at present, as 1 the matter had not been finally settled by tho Board. A deputation from the Sumner Beautifying Association, consisting of Messrs F. Pratt and J. Fountain and Dr Line, waited cn tho Council with regard to certain matters' affecting the beauty of the borough. | It was decided that the Council should I do all in its power to forward the aims of the .Association in beautifying the t borough.
