"Winslow, late chief of the Wakatipu. Mr W. J. Neville has joined Jhe Arahura as assistant purser. ! The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's Matatua. is at present in "Wellington, loading Home cargo. After taking in a large quantity of wool and frozen meat the vessel will *Bom* on to Lyttelton to complete, being duo hero about Wednesday or Thursday. A few days later sho will leave for London direct. It is more than likely that the Tyser Line Steamer Indrapur* will be a few days late in arriving Ifere. The delay is the result of ieavy steamship congestion at the Sydney wharves, whioh has delayed the vessel's dint charge. She should, however, reach here about March 11. • The Kapiti arrived from 'Wellington last 'pight and is to sail to-day ior Wollington and Patea. The Defender is due from Hokltiko today with a cargo of timber. On completion of discharge sho will sail for Wellington, Picton and Greymouth. The Nevr Zealand Shipping Company's Kner Rakaia is duo in Lyttelton to-morrow from Wellington, in continuation of HomeWard loading. After taking in a large cargo of frozen moat, wool and cheese,, the vessel iwill sail- on Wednesday for London, via Monte "Video. ' The Federal-Houldcr-Shire liner Drayton Grange loft port on Saturday evening for Wellington, whero she will take in bunkor coal from tho Union Company's Kittawa. The has on board a very large cargo 'pf wool, frozen meat and cheeso for tho ,Weet Coast of England ports, and shb should loavo Wollington to-night for Homo. ■'- Tho threo-masted ship Queen Elizabeth, chartered by the Vacuum Oil Company to bring a cargo of case oil from New York for Wellington and Sydney, arrived at the former port on Friday afternoon last, aftor '« passage of one hundred and twenty-3even 'days. Tho voyage from Nor York v/os a commonplace one, marked by no particular Incident. Coming through the doldrums tho vessel mado only 60 miles in the course of k'week. Captain Quay!e»is in command, «nd with him are tho following officers:— Chief, Mr W. Hill; sec/rod, Mr L. Woolley; third. Mr K. K. Vanderwood. The crew or twenty-five all told comprises five foreigners and twenty British soamen. Tho vessel has 17,000 cases to discharge at Wellington and should get away this week for Aus-> •txalia.
Amongst the arrivals in port yesterday morning was the stoamer John from Hull, via Bunbury, with a cargo of timber. The vessel is built of iron, with a tonnage of -43 tons. Her oaigo-carrymg oapaoity is limited to 350 tons, all of which is stow? 11 forward in one large hold, aooess to which is pained by two halohes. The engine-room and officers' quarters are placed; aft on lines similar to the Kowhai and Opouri. The John was purohaaod in England by ner master, Captain F. Holm, and ho Intends to run her on the New Zealand coastal trade. The vessel left Hull on November 15 last and experienced fairly heavy weather going through tho Channel and also crossing the Bay of Biscay. Port Said was on December 10, where she called. Xwo days later sho left for Bunbury. Bunbury was reached on Sunday, January 28, and after coaling and loading a large cargo of timber the John left for Lyttelton on iebruary 0. After clearing Tasmania fairly heavy soutnwest weather was mot with, whioh did not cease until the New Zealand coast was in sight. Foveaux Strait was passed on Friday last, and good weather was experienced up to Lyttelton, which she reached shortly before nino o'clook yesterday morning. Captain Holm is no stranger to those shores, as he was for some timo in the service of the Maoriland Steam Ship Company, and brought out the Enncrdale to New Zealand. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company s lonio arrived at Wellington from London, via ports, at 9.35 a.m. on Saturday. London was leit on January i. Rough weather ana strong winds wore encountered in the Channel and in tho Bay of Biscay, and delayod progress. Teueriffe was reached on the morning of January 12. From then on the weather was perfect. Cape Town was left 'at noon on Sunday, January 28, and fine but cold weather was experienced all tho way down to Hobart, which port was reached en February 16. Owing to the 1000 tons of cargo for discharge, and labour being unprocurable on Sunday, tho ship did not leave until daylight on Tuesday. Fine weather was experienced from Hobart to Wellington. Marconi operator. The vessel has several thousand tons of cargo to put out at Wellington, and is expected to leave about Thursday next for Lyttelton to oomplcto.
